Architect's Design Narratives:

Located within
the historical old-Dutch district of Jakarta, the Menteng Park
apartment complex was one of the first modern,
high-rise residential developments within the city that targeted
the upper-income local market. This project was also one of Architects
Pacific's earliest residential developments, and it was our vision
to create a final product that reflected our design goals of
sensitively responding to both cultural context and client needs.
In order to properly respect the historical precedents of the
community, the master plan is composed in a classical, formal
layout and consists of two paired sets of 16-story towers. The
two sets of twin towers flank a two-story "Great House"
that serves as the figurative and literal center of the development.
The Great House serves the residents as its social hub, providing
a wide variety of clubhouse functions that include dining, entertainment,
and recreational facilities. The aesthetic palette used in response
to the historical context included white-washed stucco walls,
wood shutters, terra-cotta tiled balconies and roofs, and marble
and natural wood floors. Detailing of this rich selection of
materials was developed to be sympathetic to the "Old Menteng"
residential character of the surrounding community by reflecting
its Dutch colonial architectural heritage. |
